I don't remember what my first diet was at age 10, but by 14 I was a Weight Wathcher's success story that had relapsed. In 40 years of dieting, I probably tried every diet out there: Weight Watchers, Atkins, Scarsdale, Dr. Phil, South Beach, grapefruit, Pritikin, Slim Fast, Nutri-Life liquid shakes. They all worked for a while, to varying and lesser degrees, but there was always the relapse, the classic, relentless yo-yo diet syndrome of down 10 pounds, up 12-15. Trying to lose weight, or losing weight and regaining it, or just trying to mainatain some weight loss became a way of life.
Before I could lose the weight and keep it off I had to control the Yeast Beast - the imbalance of yeast in my body which created the cravings and insatiability for sugar, flour, and starch.
I say they all worked to varying and lesser degrees because what I learned in hindsight is that any diet that cuts out the sugar and processed and starchy carbohydrates (which turn to sugar in your bloodstream) will succeed in keeping the Beast (Candida yeast imbalance) at bay. I say they all relapsed because, until I got rid of the Beast (Candida yeast overpopulation), it just stealthily lay in wait for the return of sugar.
What I know now, is that ANY diet will work to lose the weight once you get the Yeast Beast (Candida yeast infestation) under control. In fact, what I recommend in my book, Beauty and the Yeast Beast, is that once the Beast is controlled you go on a diet rotation, giving each diet 4-6 weeks and then changing. As the book explains, the initial diet is very restrictive in food choice, but with unlimited quantity. After that, you can begin diet rotations, but must remember to utilize portion control with each program.
You can lose weight permanently!
