The Questions I Get Asked Most Often About Yeast, Diet and Weight Loss

Could you send me a list of foods to eat?
Please see the table at the bottom of this page.

I am a vegetarian and the diet outlined in the book is largely composed of animal proteins. Are animal proteins the only kinds of proteins that can be used to starve the yeast beast, or would beans, nuts, and seeds be ok?
One of the reasons protein without any high glycemic (starchy) carbohydrates is so successful is the chemistry of the body, which I don't claim to understand scientifically, but several doctors (Atkins, Schwartzbein, etc.) have explained well in their books. Somehow, when there are not many carbs around, even large quantities of protein do not cause weight gain and, in fact, spur on weight loss. If I didn't eat enough protein the weight loss slowed - I used to eat 1/4 pound of cheese and 2 or 3 eggs for breakfast, and a quarter pound of cheese and a half pound of protein for lunch, and a large protein portion with salad for dinner, and snack on turkey, cheese, leftover meats, etc. during the day, consuming very large amounts of food and losing like crazy. (If I ate anywhere near that amount now, as my diet is not carb restricted anywhere nearly as much, I would be in weight trouble!)

I am confident that you can do this as a vegetarian. Find a good source for nutritional information on line (there are many) and check the carbohydrates in the beans, tofu, nuts, etc. that you are eating and determine the glycemic index (GI). (The GI of a food is calculated by multiplying the glycemic index by the amount of carbohydrate in grams provided by a food and dividing the total by 100.) Choose the lowest GI foods and make these your staples. A wonderful resource is available from Low-Carb Diet Tools. It lets you looks up foods specifically or in categories, and allows you several options to customize your search.

Remember, the most important thing is to avoid sugar, flour, and starch (high GI veggies like potatoes and all grains) and take the Antifungals. My lab has been doing ongoing research on this and last yearwe developed a very effective antifungal, Candidacidin, which is now available on line. The proprietary formula we use does not require rotation as yeast does not build up a tolerance to it.

The book says to use more than one type of probiotic; does that mean at the same time or alternately? Should I use 3 different probiotics every day, or should I use one brand one day or one week, and use another brand another day or week?
Probiotics don't kill yeast; they do populate your digestive system with bacteria helpful to the digestive process. There are many probiotic blends available on line and in health food stores. Choose one from a reputable company that offers a multi-specied probiotic with high numbers of live bacteria. Be sure you consume prebiotics and large quantities of water; otherwise, the probiotics do not have what they need to set up housekeeping inside you.

What is the best bread, that is yeast and wheat free, you have ever had?
Yeast likes all grains - and corn is actually a grain. Eat NO bread (crackers, pasta, etc.) while on the first two weeks of the program; avoid it as much s possible afterwards. Bread is the one biggest obstacle to weight loss. Be creative - there are some ideas in another FAQ, right above the chart of what to eat/avoid.

The book says to alternate the antifungals, and I was wondering how often should I alternate? Should I use candidate one day and grape fruit seed extract another day, or should I alternate weekly, monthly?
I lost weight only using grapefruit seed extract, but added the Candidate to the program when my research showed that after a while (two or three months) the yeast were less effected by the grapefruit seed extract, though it was still working. While I am not battling the Beast physically any longer, as an obesity counselor I always have to keep seeking new ways to improve the program for those who follow my diet and weight loss program.

We have found that our antifungals (Candidacidin and Good To Go) not only fight yeast, they protect your food as you digest it so at least you begin getting the nutrients from what you eat, instead of the Candida robbing them.

Remember, it only takes 90-120 days to get your yeast under control, depending on your level of commitment to the yeast control diet and your level of activity; hard work exercise makes your digestive system move faster and yeast has less time to grow; yeast is also expelled when you sweat (from exercise, not Vegas temperature). If you are committed to doing it in 90 days one antifungal will do it. If you know you are not being 100% vigilant, appropriately plan on longer, and plan on a second antifungal at the halfway point. If you are using Candidacidin(TM), you do not have to rotate formulas.

My Doctor doesn't believe in this theory. I'm on a fixed income and can't afford to have test run on my own, or to purchase the expensive at home test.Could you tell me what the blood test was? I am uncertain which is a better way to detect yeast overgrowth, saliva or blood testing?
We offer a test kit good for saliva, blood, etc.; others order stool tests, which only report on Candida albicans - BUT SAVE YOUR MONEY - DON'T TEST! If you have the symptoms form the list below (more comprehensive list available on my website,
BeautyAndTheYeastBeast.com) and start the program. If you feel better in one week, you have yeast; keep up the good work! If you want to test, just because, or if you want to test to, like me, do a monthly test to set a baseline and watch your yeast population, we developed the #1 yeast mold test kit available, and you do not need labboratory services.Laboratory In A Box (TM) is available at personalyeasttestkit.com.

What about Stevia?
Stevia is a wonderful natural sweetener available in drops and powder, with and without added fiber; it is fine to use this.

I'm surprised there are no recipes. Can you send me some?
There are no recipes because the diet is so straight protein and green veg based. Any recipe not using flour, starch or sugar is fine. There are some tricks though: romaine lettuce leaves make good sandwich bookends, as do cheese slices. You can roll up your protein in the lettuce or cheese like a wrap, too. Mayo and butter are allowed - make use of this. EAT OFTEN - the worst thing you can do on any diet is go hungry. You can eat large amounts of protein without weight gain if you are not adding carbs.

Due to popular request, I WILL be adding a few of my favorite recipies for delicious eat all you wants and a few not_so_disasterous cheats. Look for a link to Recipies this month (September)
